Due to conflict with preparations for The World Equestrian Event, at The Kentucky Horse Park, the traditional two night Picnics with the Pops event will be replaced with Cirque de la Symphonie in the Meadow behind the Keene Barn/Entertainment Center”. Our community would not be able to enjoy this special evening except for the gracious hospitality of our host, Keeneland.
The Picnic with the Pops was started about 30 years ago by, then Mayor, James Amato and several Lexington residents. The original non-profit corporation was adopted by the Urban County Government in 1981 and the Picnic with the Pops Commission was created. This volunteer body is responsible for organizing and presenting Lexington’s premier outdoor musical event each summer. Proceeds from the Picnic are dedicated toward the development of a permanent outdoor amphitheater.
